We ate breakfast with Lauren and Jack before they left for school at 8.30. After my morning sleep, Mum, Grandma and I drove to John Shaw’s house near Cambridge. Mum had taken my high chair so I felt very at home eating my lunch there. Unfortunately we couldn’t go for a walk after lunch because it started to rain but I played happily on the lounge floor while Mum and John talked and Grandma had a snooze. I had a little sleep in the car on the way home, but then I couldn’t get back to sleep in my cot so Grandad fed me my bottle and then Mum and Grandma took me for a farm walk with Sam and Lucy the goat. Lucy is the big rough goat and she bit my toes and made me cry so Mum had to defend me from her after than and then it was all O.K. I was out like a light at 7pm as soon as Mum put me to bed.

I slept until 8am today and after breakfast Grandma played with me and tried to help me crawl while Mum had a shower then Mum took me in the pram to the milking shed and she helped Grandpa with the buckets of milk to feed the calves. After lunch, Mum took me for a walk in the pram and Lauren brought Alice the goat too. We went to the cottage where Alan lives and played on the trampoline there and saw Maggie the black cat. While I had my afternoon sleep, Mum made Apple Shortcake with assistance from Lauren and Jack and I could smell it cooking when I woke up. Tonight I sat in my high chair and ate while everyone else was at the dinner table. I sat next to Jack and giggled when he made funny faces at me, Mum says I’m like a mini version of Jack.

I woke at 8.30am this morning, Mum was very pleased with an extra sleep-in but everyone else was almost finished breakfast by the time we were up. This afternoon, Mum took me for a walk on the farm in the pram which Grandma had arranged for us. Lauren came too as well as Sam the dog and Lucy the goat! Everywhere around us was green grass and various animals, Mum and Lauren made strange noises to show me which animals make which noises! Later, Mum took me to visit Kevin and Margaret, the neighbours across the road and I played very nicely with some toys Margaret found for me, but I didn’t get too close to their little dog called Flea! Grandpa fed me my bottle after dinner and then I got to bed about 7.15pm, I think I’m almost back on schedule!

I slept until 7.45am which Mum was very happy with but then I fell asleep in Mum’s bed while she was breastfeeding me. I slept for another hour or so and then I had got up for my usual breakfast of weetbix and banana which I ate with great enthusiasm and after a little play with a great selection of toys which Grandma has gathered for me, I settled down to my morning sleep.

This afternoon, I went with Mum, Grandma and Grandpa to meet Lauren and Jack from school. They were very excited to see my Mum again and to meet me and on the way home in the car, they kept me entertained with funny faces and picking up my toys for me. Grandma had already bought some essential supplies for me like weetbix, avocado and bananas but today Mum bought nappies and formula and a few other things. Before dinner, Mum and I went outside with Lauren and Jack and they played in the long grass in the orchard while I sat in my pram and watched what was going on, including the two frolicking goats, Lucy and Alice!

My first big plane trip... Woo hoo!

Mum was trying to remember why she had decided to book us on a midnight flight... After Mum checked us in, we went upstairs with Dad and waited to board our plane. There was a smiley little girl called Lily and her parents who were waiting near us and our parents were comparing our crawling (or not in my case) and other milestones. It turned out that Lily’s father wasn’t travelling either and Lily and I and our Mums had a row of 4 seats to ourselves which suited us very nicely! While Mum put our bags in the overhead lockers, she sat me in my seat and I spent a while closely examining the seat controls so that I was familiar with the seat recline position and the movie channels when it came time to use them! Lily and I had a bassinet each and although I'm a tall boy, I just fitted into my bassinet and I slept for about 2 hours. It was soon light and when I woke up, Mum sat me up in my bassinet so that I could smile and look out at all the people in the cabin.

When we got off the plane in Sydney, my Nanna was there! I hadn’t seen her for months and although Mum kept showing me photos of her and Poppa I wasn’t sure when I would see her again! She arranged for us to spent our 2 hours together in the Qantas Chairman’s lounge which was very comfortable for us and I ate my weetbix and mashed banana amongst the businessmen and their laptops and mobile phones and did my best not to put sticky fingerprints on the leather chairs! Nanna hardly put me down for 2 hours and despite her best efforts to keep me going, I eventually fell asleep on Nanna and she held me until it was time for Mum and I to get on the shuttle to the international terminal.

On the next plane for our flight to Auckland, there was no bassinet for me, so I had to make myself comfortable on Mum as best I could. Things didn’t start very well when I put my hand into the hot toddler meal which they delivered for me. Luckily my soft little hand was OK, I had just got a fright. Once I calmed down, Mum laid me on the spare seat next to her and I slept for a little while with my head on her knee. Mum breastfed me each time the plane was taking off and landing to help my ears which seemed to work OK.

When we got to Auckland, we were met by Grandpa who lots of people say I look like. I think he looks a lot older and wiser than me! When we got to Grandpa’s new car, Mum fed me a bottle of milk before she put me into the car seat which Grandad had arranged and we drove to Grandma and Grandpa’s house. It was a long drive so I dozed on and off because I’d had my sleep routine for the day thrown out the window! Once we arrived, I met my Grandma too and had plenty of welcome smiles for her. Mum fed me my dinner, I had a bath and then I got to bed by about 8.30pm. It’s all different to home, and I get the feeling that I am being very closely watched here because everyone is so interested in me! Grandma and Grandpa have pin up boards with lots of photos of me which Mum has sent them, it appears they have been studying my life up until now!

Mum and I survived the trip, and now we'll be spending 2 and a half weeks at the Perry farm!

I spent the day at Daycare today while Mum went to work. She came to breastfeed me at lunchtime and to see what I was up to. When we got home, she fed me my dinner, bathed me and got me to bed in record time. She was busy all evening and she came into my room a few times to get clothes and things from my drawers. At 9.45pm I was already awake because I was suspicious about what was going on, I soon found out what it was when Mum came to pick me up in my Grobag and carried me to the car! Soon we were on our way to the airport!

This morning after my breastfeed in the big bed, Mum dressed me and then put me on the floor to play. I let her know with an indignant cry that this was not the usual routine, this was breakfast time! Luckily Mum assured me that she hadn’t forgotten and I could see her packing all the ingredients into a bag and soon we were on our way to the O’Briens for breakfast. I had my usual weetbix with formula milk and a little prune juice, followed by mashed banana, pieces of banana and some mashed banana on toast too. I couldn’t believe that in the time I ate my breakfast, I saw Mum and Dad put away mango, pineapple and strawberries, croissants, muffins, bacon and eggs, fruit toast and coffee! They shouldn’t be calling me the piggy in the middle next time I’m in the big bed! Michelle was pleased to see me wearing some of the clothes which she had passed on from Josh and Samuel.

We went home for my morning sleep and afterwards I ate my lunch in my highchair on the front porch because it was such a beautiful sunny day. I could hear birds singing while I ate my lunch and a cheeky magpie even walked up the steps to see if we had anything to feed him but since we had no meat he soon lost interest and walked back down. After lunch, we drove to Auntie Kate and Uncle Alan’s house. I had a great time on Claudia’s swing in their garden and Dad pushed me for ages until they decided I might have had enough sun on one side of my face. Then I sat on a mat with Mum and played with Claudia’s baby gym, she played with it too and we played nicely together.

We went home for my afternoon nap and then headed out again for a welcome home BBQ for twins Mackenzie and Georgia and their parents Dennis and Sheila, they have been away in Scotland for 3 months. The BBQ was at the Hamilton’s house at City Beach and I had a great time there trying to get a swig from my Dad’s beer bottle and generally looking around at everyone and all the kids running around to see what was going on. Mum had a challenge on her hands to get me to eat my dinner with all the distractions, but I did OK in the end. Everyone thought my rocking in the high chair was funny, they thought I was dancing to the music but that is just what I do in between mouthfuls!

Since Mum and I will miss 3 weeks of swimming when we are away, today we did an extra make-up swimming class. Dad had a cold so he decided not to come in the water with me as he didn’t want to pass it on when he blew on me (that is my signal that I’m about to go underwater!) The class was with other level one (beginner) babies so I was able to show them what I have learnt in my swimming career now that I have progressed to level two. My repertoire included showing them my torpedoes, how I hold my breath before I go under water and lying on my back and splashing. Dad watched all my moves in the water and videotaped it all for our future entertainment! Theresa came along to my swimming class yesterday and watched with interest too! I quite like having an audience!

Ashton's Mum, Britta has lent Mum a small compact stroller for us to take to New Zealand. It is so compact that it folds up into a backpack for when we go on the plane. Mum and Dad spent a long time today trying to work out the order in which to unfold it, Dad eventually mastered it with the help of instructions on the website!

After my afternoon nap, Mum took me to visit Uncle Rose and Uncle Don. Auntie Rose reminded me of my Nanna who I haven’t seen for a while. Mum took a photo while Auntie Rose held me and I played with some of Eliza’s kitchen toys.

Today was the first time that Mum and I got our schedules in synch, she went to work and I was at Daycare! Mum and Dad both took me to Daycare this morning and explained my routine of 2 bottles of formula now. Mum still came to breastfeed me at lunchtime and she likes to see what I am up to when she gets there too. She coped OK at work today and raced back to collect me around 5.30pm to take me home for my full quota of snuggles because we had been apart all day!

I've finally got rid of my cold except for the odd little cough but its hard us little people because we can't cough it up like everyone else. Mum and Dad were saying that I've done very well not to wake during the night while I've had it. Actually I have been awake alot (and they know that I've been awake) but I've managed to amuse myself and fall off to sleep again. I usually start to goo and ga to myself around 6.30am these days and Mum or Dad comes to pick me up soon after that and I go into the big bed for a breastfeed and a little "pig in the middle."

This afternoon, Mum put me in the new backpack and walked around with me in it while she hand watered the garden. While she was busy, I looked up at the trees and touched the branches and leaves that came within reach and ran my hands through her hair, I only pulled it a little bit. Mum has bought me a hair brush and sometimes she runs it through my soft hair. It has grown a bit and so now it sits down on top and doesn’t stand up like a cockatoo!

I am now definitely a formula boy and had three bottles today. I can hold the bottle myself so that my Mum just needs to watch and wipe my neck when I smile at her and the milk in my mouth runs down there. Mum is still experimenting with the best times to feed me the bottles of formula but I am still putting away the same sized meals and enjoying them too. I still do quite alot of arm flailing and whole body rocking in between the mouthfuls of food but eventually get through it all! Mum and Dad think I’ll be right handed because I pick up my finger food like squares of vegemite bread and pieces of cheese with my right hand. I use my left to fend off the approaching water bottle when I don’t want it and to stop any hand which doesn’t contain food (often it contains a cloth to wipe my face!)

We started our Sunday with a family snuggle in the big bed and a little breast feed for me too. After breakfast, Dad drove us in the beetle car to the Tresillian fair and Mum bought me some more clothes and toys. I am not sure when Mum will ever find time to dress me in all these clothes but I seem to find time to have a fiddle with any toy or object which comes within reach of my inquisitive little fingers. Michelle had called Mum yesterday to let us know the fair was on and we saw her there, she had a huge pile of clothes for Josh.

I love snuggling up with Mum for a breastfeed but Mum’s boobies are not as full of milk as they used to be and that’s not satisfying me like it used to. I’ve been a bit antsy the last few days which Mum and Dad think is because I’m getting more hungry. So after calling me T.B. (Tantrum Boy), this weekend Dad has re-introduced me to the bottle. It took a few attempts for me to get the hang of sucking again, but now I’m off and running with it once more.

Tonight Mum and Dad went out to dinner with friends, they have a little girl named Isabella who is 2 years old, I haven’t met her yet. Auntie Kate stayed here with me while they were out and I stayed quiet for her. Mum and Dad came home with a backpack for me to sit in which Isabella has grown out, of so that should be fun!

Mum couldn’t put off returning to work any longer so today she finally did it. Unfortunately I have now caught her cold and I’m not a very happy little chap so Dad stayed at home with me today. Daddy Daycare was pretty good, Dad took me in the pram for a walk to the supermarket to buy some things for his lunch . Mum came home to feed me at lunchtime and then went back to work. Later on, Dad put me into the ‘Baby Bjorn’ pouch on his front and he went out in the garden to water the plants so I had to go too! The ducks were there and so we fed them some seed and gave them some fresh water. When Mum came home after work, I could see her looking around and thinking that the house wasn’t as tidy as it when she stays at home with me. That’s OK, I’m like my Dad and I like to make myself at home and spread my toys far and wide!

By the way, Mum said that her first day back at work went OK. I’m not sure how much work she got done because she said she was busy showing my photos to anyone who was interested!

With my bowl of chicken and vegetables for lunch I had a side serve of squares of vegemite on bread. I think I'm going to be a vegemite demon like my Dad! After lunch, Mum, Dad and I went for a walk with me in the pram. Its good fun going with Mum and Dad because I can see one of them walking by my side out of the corner of my eye, usually I have to arch my head right back to see whoever is pushing me.

Later on, we went over to Auntie Kate and Uncle Alan's. Dad sat me on the floor to see how my movement would go on the wooden floor. There was no sign of any crawling action and I was happy to just sit as usual, Claudia kindly brought me a few of her toys to play with. She has such a huge toybox that sometimes she gets inside it to play instead of getting the toys out onto the floor!

Mum had been counting down to today for months and the day has finally arrived for her to start back at work. But she has had a nasty cold for almost a week now and her throat is still very sore so she didn’t go back to work today (because she also knew she would spend most of the day talking about me!) She still took me to daycare and I spent another good day there (while she caught up on sleep at home!) Today Ashton (from our Mothers group) was at Daycare too. We did painting today but when I got home, Mum found there was no piece of artwork in my bag so she will investigate where it got to!
