Dad didn’t call in this morning, but Mum told me that it’s a special day because we will be going home today, away from this cocooned environment where I have spent a week. This morning I had visits from Auntie Kate and Mrs Cranley and Kieran. I was given my discharge check by the midwife and they said I had done well to put on the weight I lost and a little more, so I now weigh 3.98kg which is more than my birth weight. Dr Kumar the paediatrician also checked me out and said that I am a healthy little boy!

Dad came after work and we had our last hospital visitor, Russell from Busselton. Dad, Mum and I all left the room, Dad carried all the bags while Mum carried me. We went down to ground level then walked to a big black car which looked a bit like a hearse. Dad strapped me into a little capsule in the back seat, he didn’t seem very experienced at this procedure, because it took him about 10 minutes. I don’t know the way to the house because my seat faces backwards and I couldn’t see out the tinted windows.

It was a short ride of only 5 minutes before we arrived at home, Mum and Dad said this where we will all be living now. The air is warmer than in the hospital room and blows softly on my skin, the birds were singing and Dad captured the moment on video as Mum walked with me in my capsule up the path to the front door, under the shade of the big Poinciana tree. After the exertion of the three minute drive home, I soon went to bed in my own bassinet in my yellow bedroom, I wonder why Mum and Dad didn’t paint it blue like all the other boys things?

Mum jumped on the scales and was pleased to have lost 10 of the 20kg she gained while I was in her tummy (I was almost 4 of those 10kg!)
