5 months old today!
Auntie Kate kindly offered to come over and look after me tonight so that Mum and Dad could go out for a meal to celebrate Mum’s birthday. They went to Room Nineteen, the Perth restaurant which won the reality TV show ‘My Restaurant Rules’ last year. Mum ordered Ash’s Surf ‘n Turf (king prawns and steak) which is one of their signature dishes and said it was very nice, Dad enjoyed his salmon and prawn sausages and they shared chocolate fondue for dessert with strawberries, marshmallow, hokey pokey and Turkish delight for dipping! I stayed quietly in my room but I heard Auntie Kate tiptoe in to check on me a few times!

Happy Birthday to Mum
Happy Birthday to Mum
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday to Mum!
Dad helped me write in a card for Mum, it had a cute picture of a cat looking out through a round hole cut in a paper bag, it looks a bit like Simba the black and white cat from next door. In the card we wrote "Happee Burfda Mumy Macs"
Not much else happened today because Mum spent a while on the phone to Uncle Alan and Uncle William's girlfriend Rose, who both have birthdays today too! She also spoke to Grandad in New Zealand and to Grannie who is currently on holiday in England, so I did my best to entertain myself while all this talking went on...

This morning Mum and Dad invited Nanna, Poppa, Uncle Alan, Auntie Kate and Claudia over for a BBQ breakfast for Mum's birthday. Her birthday is really tomorrow but I think she is trying to stretch the celebrations out for 2 days.
They had a nice breakfast of fruit salad, pancakes and a BBQ fryup. The weather was lovely and sunny and we all sat outdoors, I sat on Nanna's knee and then in my bouncer. Last week Dad fixed up the swing because the ropes were broken, then he put me in the swing and swung it. Today I went in the swing again but on Dad's knee this time.
This afternoon, Mum, Dad and I went to the beach. We sat in our beach shelter on the sand, Mum fed me and then I lay down and played with my toys while Dad went for a swim. I got a bit tired and so we came home and I had a sleep, Mum and Dad had a sleep too. Grandad from New Zealand rang and woke up Mum to wish her a Happy Birthday and Mum got 3 emails from Alan, Lauren and Jack in NZ too. Mum has booked us seats to fly to New Zealand in October so I will meet them all then for the first time.

This morning Mum and I walked to Subi for a coffee with some of the Mums and babies from the Mothers group. Mum and I had to leave early to walk home in time for doggy sitting! Nanna brought Molly the pampered Cocker Spaniel over for us to look after for an hour or so while she did some shopping. Molly rushed around madly when she first arrived (as she always does) and then when Nanna was holding me, Molly suddenly jumped up and took the bootie off my foot, slobbered all over it and then Mum had to chase Molly to get it out of her mouth. In the tug of war which resulted, the bootie fell in the dirt and is now in the washing basket.
After all that excitement, it was time for my afternoon nap. I got to sleep quite quickly despite Molly whimpering at the back door. Since she last came here, Dad blocked up the doggy flap in the back door so Molly can't come and go as she pleases any more (it was actually blocked up to stop Simba the inquisitive cat from next door from coming inside.) While Molly was outside whimpering, Mum went into the back garden to pull some weeds and keep her company. Nanna returned later to collect Molly and take her home to Mandurah. As Nanna drove away, Molly was breathing down her neck!

We had a lazy start to the day and spent a nice quiet family day at home which was nice after our night out on the town.
After the rope on the swing in the back garden (hanging from the Jacaranda tree) mysteriously broke one day after the lawn mower man had been, Dad decided today was the day to fix it. First, Mum and I positioned ourselves in a chair under the tree so that I could be fed while we watched the proceedings. Then Dad tied up the swing with new white rope, he tested it himself to make sure the rope would hold and then I gave it the final system test. I had a big grin on my face as Dad pushed me in the swing, and Mum had trouble focusing the camera on me as I swung back and forth.

I have been sleeping through the night again for the past couple of weeks and I slept until 6.30am this morning. After breakfast, Mum and Dad took me shopping at Target. We bought birthday presents for Uncle Alan and Auntie Rose in New Zealand, they both have the same birthday as my Mum. After that we looked at lots of things in the baby department and saw baby Ashton (from the Mothers group) and his parents browsing there too. Later on at home, Dad practised erecting and dismantling my portacot and I had my afternoon sleep in it.
This evening, just as I was getting ready for my last feed, Mum and Dad appeared looking all dressed up, put me in my car seat and we all set off in the car. As we drove, there were huge flashes in the sky every minute or so which were quite frightening but Dad said it was OK and that it was called an electrical storm. It started to rain just as we got to Gaenor and Brian's place, I got safely inside and then Mum fed me which was a relief. Dad setup my new portacot in the spare bedroom and they put me to bed in there. It was no longer a spare bedroom because before we knew it I was accompanied by 7 month old Liam and 10 week old Joshua, 3 portacots in one room!
There were lots of people all talking and laughing so I was awake for a couple of hours, but I stayed quiet and let the other 2 get some sleep. Later on Liam and I both cried at the same time, this way no one could blame either of us. Soon after, Mum and Dad decided to take me home, Mum held me in my grobag while Dad packed my portacot away. Mum strapped me into the car in my grobag and I fell asleep on the way home so at home, she just carried me inside and I went straight back to sleep until 6am. My first night out on the social scene!

Tonight Dad came home from work early, then Nanna arrived and she was a spectator while Mum bathed me. Mum told her to stand back because I kick and splash lots but I decided to have a relaxing bath this evening and to just lie there quietly while Mum cleaned my various little folds.
After my last feed, Mum, Dad and Nanna all put me to bed. Then I heard Mum and Dad getting ready to go out. They were going out to dinner with a few friends for Sheila's 40th birthday. Nanna came in to check on me regularly but I stayed asleep all evening and earned another gold star in my behaviour book.

Just because the Mums got together for an unscheduled coffee yesterday doesn't mean they were going to miss out today. They'd planned a new venue, Cino's in Subiaco so Mum and I walked up there (me in the pram of course) in the beautiful morning sunshine and we sat on the outdoors balcony and I got up close to Sophia when Mum sat next to her Mum Emma. She is a cute little girl and always wear frilly pink pants, but I can't work out why her Mum sometimes holds her upside down! I'm glad my Mum is a little more careful with me and only holds me the right way up.
This afternoon Mum took me out the back for a wander in the garden. We thought there was a dead magpie on the lawn because another magpie was pecking it. But when Mum and I got closer, the one on the ground which was only playing dead, got up and flew away!

Today Mum and I went to the Swanbourne Child Health Clinic at 1pm for the first of our 4 month old groups. Unfortunately there was no nurse to take the group, but since it was mostly our same group of Mums and babies from our Tuesday coffee outings, we all decided to go to Tropicanas at Cottesloe and sip lattes (Mum not me) instead of learning about 4 month old baby stuff. Mum was assured that the group will be held next week!

Today we all jumped in the big black wagon and went to Babyland to look at portacots for me when I need to sleep somewhere other than at home. Mum and Dad looked at car seats and plenty of other baby gadgets too and yet, for the very first time, they came away from a baby store without spending any money!
Unfortunately that record was broken when they went to Trover Learning (Auntie Kate rang this morning to tell Mum that there was a 20% off sale there today) and bought me number and letter blocks, a letter chart with an item starting with each letter and a lizard made up of blocks with each number from 1-20. Wow that's alot of learning I'm in for! I can just hear Mum and Dad saying "OK little guy, now its time for some neurological stimulation..."

Dad came home from work early today and we all went for a walk around Lake Monger. When we got home, it was time for my bath. Mum still baths me in the baby bath but she now lies me in it on a sort of cradle which Auntie Kate lent her. It means that with all the kicking and splashing that I do, it is easier for Mum to keep hold of me and reduces the risk of me slipping in. Tonight in the bath, I found out that if I got the angle just right I could wee without getting a drop in my bath. Clever huh?! (I guess Mum will sort out the puddle on the laundry floor!)

Mum and Dad decided that they need a portacot for me for if we are out in the evening and I need to sleep. Mum called a lady who advertised one in the Sunday Times and this afternoon we went for a drive to Shelley to see it. It was a very wet afternoon and since we didn't leave home until about 4.30pm, we got caught in the rush hour traffic in the wet and it took us about an hour to drive to Shelley. Mum decided that the portacot would be perfect for me, and so she bought it and put it in the car. Then we had to drive all the way home in the pouring rain. Mum phoned Dad at work to see if he wanted a ride home in the car, but he said that he would cycle home.

Mothers Day!
Our day started with Dad collecting me from my cot and putting me in the middle of the big bed between Mum and Dad. Depending on how keen I am for a feed, sometimes I lie there happily under the doona and other times I kick like mad until I get it off me and then continue to make it known that I would like to be fed! Today I lay between Mum and Dad happily while Mum opened the card with a picture of a mother and baby rhino which Dad had bought for her and written what I dictated for Mum "Deer Mum, i no sum times i wake up in the midl ov the nite so i bort sum jiffees for the winter munths. luv max". Mum loved the Jiffies (slippers) and perfume that we had bought for her. Next Mum took me to the couch for my liquid breakfast while Dad headed to the kitchen to make blueberry pancakes with maple syrup for Mum's breakfast.
This morning we had a photo shoot... Mum took my clothes off and laid me on my tummy on a towel on the table while Dad took photos of me! This was because they always comment on how cute I look after my bath when I'm lying naked on my tummy while Mum massages my back. This is always in the evening, so today they did it while it was light and took photos!
For lunch we went to Kings Park and met up with Nanna, Uncle Alan, Auntie Kate and Claudia for a Mothers Day picnic lunch. Auntie Kate had done all the cooking and everyone said how nice the food was. Mum sat in one of the chairs and fed me and then Mum passed me over to Nanna for cuddling while she had her lunch. We saw a kookaburra swoop down out of a tree and steal a piece of sandwich from a (very surprised) man's hand. Then the kookaburra sat on the grass near us and shook the sandwich around to break it up. Mum took some photos of the cheeky bird.

I really am growing up... yesterday I moved from the bassinet to the cot and today I moved from the capsule to a car seat. It is in the rear facing position in the car so Mum still can't look around and see what I am doing or where my dummy has got to. Mum finds it a little less convenient because now she has to carry all the less important stuff to the car first and then come back to carry just me! She used to sit my capsule on the lawn under the big tree while she reversed the car out of the garage, there is none of that now!
This afternoon, Mum put me into my new car seat and we drove to Ashby which is north of Wanneroo to visit Theresa in her new home, she has moved to a Lifestyle Village there. We had a good drive there, I am quite good at providing the singing/talking/background noise during trips in the car now so there is no need for any of that radio nonsense!
I have been waking up during the night again lately, at a time ranging anywhere between 11pm and 5am. I am not sure if I wake up because I am hungry or I wake up and then realise I am hungry. However Mum seems to have given up on trying to re-settle me and co-operates by feeding me, I am not sure if she will continue to do this because she knows I know how to sleep through the night. At least I only wake up once during the night and I am quite easy to feed now. If I come detached from the nipple, I know how to find it again by myself so now I often come off, have a little talk with Mum and a look around and then dive back on for a bit more.

Last night was my first night in my cot! I sleep in it inside a grobag which is like a sleeping bag with head and arm holes at the top and I wear an outfit underneath depending on how cool the night will be. It was emotionally hard for Mum to stop putting me into the basinette but we worked together to overcome the issues! The grobag is for age 6-18 months and is very long for me at the moment so Mum sewed up the armholes a bit so they are not so loose.
I overheard Mum telling someone a funny story about my cot, I thought it was new but Mum was saying that one night last year (when I was still inside her tummy) she and Dad came home late one evening and saw the cot on our neighbour Sandra's verge with other stuff ready for our street verge rubbish collection. It is common practice to take things from people's verges if they are left out for the collection and since Mum and Dad didn't want to miss out on the cot, they carried it along the street to our house under the cover of darkness. In the last few weeks before I was born, Dad sanded the old silver sparkly paint off the cot and Mum painted it fresh white. When Mum and Dad told Sandra that they had acquired her cot she was delighted that it is going to be well used! So that is the history of my new cot!
Today was Auntie Kate's birthday and we met Nanna and Poppa, Auntie Kate, Uncle Alan and Claudia at the Matilda Baby foreshore for lunch at the kiosk there. Afterwards we walked along to the playground for Claudia to explore the equipment there and Mum fed me.
Mum thought that we would never need all the bibs we were given as presents, but I am dribbling lots now and some days we get through half the bib collection! Sometimes I blow bubbles in my dribble, this always seems to make Mum smile and encourage me so she must like it!
